A slang word for long-term contract workers who successfully sued Microsoft Corp. in the United States in a lawsuit that began in 1996. It combines the words "permanent" and "temporary." Plaintiffs and Microsoft eventually reached a $100 million settlement. Because of the high-profile nature of the case, many businesses began to scrutinize their temporary worker rules more closely.
